Prospective children are invited to spend the morning with us to experience a glimpse into life at Moor Allerton Preparatory School. The Assessment Day is usually held in the February of the year of entry and is all about us understanding your child and carefully evaluating where they currently are with their learning.
Whilst the name sounds a little formal, we work hard to make it feel like a very relaxed day with some fun along the way. It includes some essential testing in Mathematics, English (including reading and writing) and Verbal Reasoning – all of which will be age appropriate. We will also devote some time to reflecting on how your child interacts in the classroom and at play. This gives us a “whole picture” and enables your child to relax with with us.
The Assessment Day is a morning in school and we invite parents to join us at midday to meet with our Headmistress and teachers for an informal discussion over a cup of tea.
It is not an examination for which you need to unduly worry or rely on any extra coaching prior to taking the tests. We are simply looking to determine the stage each child is at with their learning and how they would fare in our school. We also would like to begin to think around how their ongoing learning could be supported to enable them to achieve their ability level and potentially beyond. In addition, we are looking for individuals who demonstrate qualities linked to our school ethos and values that are able to make a positive contribution to Moor Allerton’s happy school life.
We will aim to notify you of the outcome of the assessment day within 48 hours. Families receiving an offer of a place are asked to respond as soon as possible so that those on the waiting list can be approached.
Registration is required for these entrance assessments. For more information or to register your child please contact the school office. You can also call us on: 0161 445 4521
